DonBosco Technical Institute Dodoma has a fully operational workshop allowing for Solar Energy
training including appropriate SE technical installations for both training and internal Supply purposes.
Establishment of a fully furnished workshop provided a foundation in the overall training in SE given the institution had no SE workshop. The remodeling and furnishing of the classrooms into a workshop, focused on maximizing the potential for teaching and learning. For sustainability purposes the institution used its carpentry, electrical and welding departments. The process was directed by the hired technical consultant as well as the head of the department. The furnishing of the equipment and machines was preceded by an inventory of the equipment and machines to know exactly what stock and assets the department has, and locate the stock and asset items quickly in case required.
Currently, the department has one well-equipped spacious and ventilated workshop with state of art, solar equipments conforming with the latest technology which caters to the requirements of experiments/practicals to be performed by both teachers and students. The fully furnished and operational workshop at the institution will in turn enable the provision of quality training among trainees.
Strategic Partnerships aim to support the development, transfer and/or implementation of innovative practices as well as the implementation of joint initiatives among different parties promoting cooperation, peer learning as well as exchanges of experiences. In the course of the reporting period Don Bosco Networks has been building strategic relations with different companies operating in SE in the country including TAREA, The University of Dar es Salaam, REX Energy, Mobi Solar,SEPON Limited, TBS, Powerzon as well as Solar Power and Electrical Services Limited the primarily goal being to allow the development and reinforcement of networks, increase the capacity to operate at the transnational level, as well as to share and confront ideas, practices and methods that could help further the SE technology into advanced levels.
With the additional value besides electrical training the training SE and electronics will increase competences among the trainees which will in turn improve their livelihoods, income and self-employment opportunities. Further, the Solar Department due to training students in solar will act as an income generating for the centre in the long run through installation and maintenance practices for other organizations and clients. All in all the Solar project will help to advance the Tanzania’s solar workforce by providing an innovative training. The project focuses on enabling a strong, diverse, and well trained solar workforce, which will effectively fit into the labour market and meet the employer’s demands. By ensuring the solar workforce has access to up-to-date and credible information they need to do their jobs, consumers will have assurance of solar installation durability and production at large. In turn these jobs will help increase solar adoption and improve solar installation times of the ecosystem of professionals, from realtors and appraisers to insurance companies and code officials. Moreover, having an efficient, well-trained workforce familiar with solar will improve inspection compliance, expedite system permitting, reduce liability and insurance costs, and increase consumer confidence.
